Last weekend, it was both Bastille day and France world cup victory. I wish I was in France to feel the energy, and at the same time, I felt a bit disconnected. These past few years didn’t show the best face of my country and I guess I have a hard time forgetting its behavior to celebrate football/see military parade. Although I was born in France, my parents are originally from the French Caribbean and I spent quite some time over there. There is something weird about being French Caribbean. This mixed culture makes me feel sometimes like I am floating in between, but living in North America made me feel more French and more Caribbean than ever.
[This set was generously gifted by Bombom lingerie. All thoughts and opinions are mine and Marcela’s.]
A few months ago, I discovered via Instagram a brand called Bombom. I have to say that I immediately recognized the environment on their pictures. It was my island. And the models were so representative of the Caribbean women beauty from my point of view. I couldn’t not love it. And then, I realized that their lingerie was manufactured in France, ethically. Made of silk, velvet, mesh… Amazing. I have been wanted to see a brand like that for a long time. Clearly they were not into fast fashion. Their collection is quite small but it’s a great start. I felt kind of sad to be out of their size range.
One day, I received an email from Christel, the co-owner of the brand, offering me to be one of the brand Ambassadors. I first had to refuse considering the size range, but then I had the idea of featuring someone else on my blog for the occasion. So my friend Marcela accepted to model for me and review the Bombom B’So Wild set in size 34C/90C and size FR 40(UK 12).
Before ordering this set, I went out for lingerie fitting with Marcela, and we found out that she was a 34C in Aubade and Simone Pérèle for reference. Then we followed the size chart to figure out her brief size. It turned out that she was in between a 40 and a 42, but we thought she must be a 40 as it was her usual size in Brazil.
When the set arrived, we both were amazed by the beautiful raisin colorway. It is such an elegant and flattering color on Marcela’s skin. The balconnet bra features unpadded cups, that are lined with a delicate mesh on the inside. The gore and band are made from silk and the straps, which are half adjustable, feature a beautiful velvet and tulle detailing. This bra feels very feminine with a touch of luxury. You can see little roses on the apexes of the bra and the gore. Marcela usually prefers simpler, and black lingerie, but she found it to be actually very pretty and perfect for special occasion.
Fit wise, the cups fits her pretty well. I would say that this bra was made with more even to full on top breasts in mind but Marcela’s breasts are pretty even, which result in a lovely fit. She wears the bra at the loosest set of hooks and eyes and found the band to not have a lot of stretch, as it is expected with silk band. In this size it is still comfortable though. The part that was less pleasant for her was the gore, that she found to be too high for her taste. Some people don’t like feeling the gore of their bras tacking (which I perfectly understand), and she felt this one to be a little bit too present during the day.
The Coordinate:
Marcela chose the tanga brief in size 40. This piece is made of fishnet and satin elastics, and is quite revealing.I like how they gave it structure with the satin accents on the sides. This tanga looks very well-made.
Marcela found the crotch (made of silk and cotton) to be narrower and also lower situated than the tanga she is used to wear. Note that it is mid-rise and my friend found herself trying to pull them up to cover her belly. Maybe if we had gone for a size 42(UK14), it would be more high-waisted. In a size 40(UK12) the hips elastics are cutting in a little, which she didn’t find very flattering. It is not a bad tanga, but I think we got the size wrong. My advice would be to size up in Bombom’s underwear if you are in between sizes.
The material used for this set is great quality and the finishes are very clean. The ensemble looks young and playful. It is discreetly strappy but has its dose of frills. The Bombom B’So Wild set also seems to have a nice adaptable fit. Overall, Marcela really likes this set and it made her wants more pretty lingerie! Note that it also exists in a black and a orange colorway, and if tangas aren’t your thing, the brand offers a coordinated brief.
I hope the Bombom extends its size range in the future, but I am personally quite happy it even exist.
