I have not written in a long time, and sometimes I wonder if I can still do it. Inspiration has been fleeting and honestly, my shopping habits have changed so much. I am not sure if you, dear reader, would still connect with who I have become.
For this article, I chose a set that illustrates my sentiment, for it is one I have desired for many years and only could afford as it was time for it to be discontinued.
Lovesick… That was the theme of 2023, but I shall not extend my thoughts on that.
For those who have been reading me for a while, you know I tend to go back, again and again to designers that I trust. I am not the most adventurous full bust blogger, nor fashion lover. I love what I love, and I stick to it. Evgenia is a brand I have been slowly collecting from, one piece at a time for many years now. The craftsmanship and timelessness of their pieces is what drawn me to it every time.
The price point makes it unaffordable to many, and for a while, I couldn’t dream of buying from them. It is certainly falling into the luxury category. With that being said, as I seldom buy any lingerie nowadays, I do not mind investing that budget into more unique or tailored garments.
Buying made-to-order pieces offers some flexibility both in payment and in design. Nowadays, I often feel a need to customize the things I buy. Not truly to be original, but often because I have enough experience now, to know what works best for my body shape and size.
The original Lovesick bralette was a triangle lace and silk piece. While I have seen pictures of Evgenia’s triangles worn by fullbusted women, I also knew that the band wouldn’t stay in place with such a big difference between my underbust and my bust circumference. One thing I have always refused, was to buy lingerie that would only be for the bedroom or to play dress up. I understand why people do it, but that is just not my thing at all.
I like being able to wear my wardrobe entirely and regularly. So the triangle cup wouldn’t do. I had however come across a version of Evgenia’s Floralia bralette that featured both silk and lace, and was closer to the Rebelle bralette I already owned from the brand. So I asked if we could do something similar made to my measurements, and naturally Stephanie Bodnar delivered.
My Lovesick bralette feels very special to me. For Rebelle or Floralia, Evgenia would use a petersham band with buttons, sewed to elastics with 3 holes for closure and adjustability. Since she did not have dust pink petersham, she used a silk covered petersham to create a sturdy flat band for the bralette. She also dyed the elastics to match the silk. The result is very excellent. Thinking about it, it ended up mimicking the original bralette very much, except the silk triangles of the cups come up lower and are less centred around each breast.
I am currently in my ballet era and this set gives me all the feels. The silk ruffles around the cup and criss cross back are such dainty details. The navy blue tiny bows at the apex of the cups are also a nice touch, for a bit of contrast.
If I had something to change about it, it would be to make the silk miters of the cups more centred and higher. I would also correct the extra silk fabric that is on the side of my breasts. It doesn’t show much in these posed pictures, but I imagine that if I had a larger torso, this extra silk would sit in a way that would actually center the triangle’s apex around the middle of my nipple. As you can see from the flat view of the bralette, it seems to be designed to sit this way on my chest.
These are things that do not affect me wearing the bralette and I still find the design incredible. Only, for my next bralette, these are things I have addressed. In truth, Stephanie offered to fix the extra fabric situation but I couldn’t be bothered to send it back. It is not annoying me enough to spend more time and money into shipping it back and forth.
The coordinate to the Lovesick set I bought is a silk and lace vintage inspired French knickers. I must say, this might be the star of the show.
The elasticized waist is silk-covered. It features 9 impeccable inset miters which gives a beautiful dimension to the whole piece. The gusset is also mitered. As usual with Evgenia pieces, the hems are tiny and the seams very neat. The embroidered pink dots on the French lace in addition to all these triangles give a very burlesque aesthetic to this lingerie. The back is plain silk, which makes for a very soft and comfortable pair of underwear.
I find myself wearing more and more tap shorts/French knickers, lately. They certainly are my new favourite type of underwear. They involve no VPL which is great, while also offering more coverage and freedom. Ahah! This one in particular is interesting, for it is both covering and very revealing. The colour of this set is looking rather neutral over my skin tone, and I find it easy to wear with spaghetti straps fluid dresses.
So here it is, my first lingerie review of 2024. I shall be back soon for more!
Yours truly,
Kitoko San
It is a privilege both to read the allusion to your poignant sentiments, and to once again see and read another one of your beautiful lingerie try-on, modelling and review posts!
The bespoke version of Evgenia’s Floralia bralette created for you by Stephanie Bodnar looks very pretty. I I especially love the last two photos – you looked beautiful (as always) modelling both the bralette, and the lovely and comfortable coordinating silk and lace vintage inspired French knickers. Absolutely, breathtakingly stunning.
